Firstly, do not go to the Yellow Pages, unless you are looking for a person who has been recommended. If someone is wearing a smart hairstyle why not stop him or her and ask who created it? I am sure they will be flattered. When you have a name it’s a good idea to telephone and check if you can have a consultation, their trading terms and prices. During the consultation make sure you ask all the questions you can to make yourself feel at ease. A consultation is where you get to keep your hair and walk away to consider your choice.
Good Luck!
Picture Perfect
It’s a great idea and not an insult to show your hairdresser a cut out picture or colour that you particularly like.
It’s a great lead into a consultation (talking is silver but showing is gold) it cuts through the mist. For example I say "the colour chestnut" (what colour do you see? there is no way we are both going to visualize the same colour). Take every chance to get your message clear. Remember once your hair is restyled and it was not what you had hoped for it’s disappointing and now that word CONSULTATION not Compromise seems to make pretty good sense now.
False Promise
Well you now have your beautiful new hairstyle and it looks great. It is the ambition of every good hairdresser to make you look great. You have left the salon and heading home, you are looking in the rear vision mirror or the shop window and your first thought is “Oh my goodness how am I going to re-create this at home?” You need to ask your hairdresser to show you how to create the look and what products are needed to support the style before you leave the salon.
Think of the Feeling
Your hairstyle, I believe as a hairdresser, is an extension of who you are. Do not get caught up in the excitement of the moment and loose sight of whom you are.
By this I mean you might be an outgoing, reserved or an in charge person. All these characteristics need to be considered when the hairdresser is creating a new style and or colour. If they have misinterpreted you, as the client, you feel very uncomfortable. A little like telling you that you are wearing the wrong colours in clothing when in fact just a little change in clothes can work wonders without having to throw out your whole wardrobe.
Frizzy Hair
Frizzy hair comes from all directions. - Dry, curls, humidity, swimming, over processed, over heated with hot irons, heated rollers, hot brushes etc. Remember there are hairdressing products available to help you through all the stages of preparing your hair for those hot treatments. Talk to your hairdresser and ask them about products plus handy hints on how to fight the frizz. There are lots of products available now to help.
Make Waves
It's just lovely when you have a full head of lovely curls or waves and everybody comments on how wonderful your hair looks. Yet you might hate it because it always seems the same whilst people with straight hair have the ability to be curly or straight. Don’t despair your hairdresser can help you. There are now answers for all your curly problems. Remember one day you will come to love the ease your curls will bring you.
Grow Longer Hair
You have decided it's time for change in hairstyles and you need to grow your hair longer. Well this is okay but talk to your hairdresser about it. They can help you with some advice when you are between styles. Growing longer does not mean you have to look less attractive for months on end. You do not have to grow your hair so that your new hairdresser has something to work with. Have a consultation and then be totally content with your hair journey.
Lifeless Hair
When your hair seems lifeless and feels that it’s lost its body DON’T PANIC! Try this quick tip...
STEP 1. - Using your salon prescribed shampoo lather up (being careful not to over stimulate the scalp) then rinse thoroughly. STEP 2. – Shampooing a second time leave the shampoo on the hair for three (3) to four (4) minutes or while you complete your shower routine. STEP 3. – Rinse, applying only a normal amount of conditioner and then rinse thoroughly.
Summer Fun
This can be the very best time to get some extra special treatment for your hair. When you pack that beach bag don’t forget hair moisturiser and or a prescribed treatment. Apply small amounts before taking a dip. This works great and in most cases gives U.V. protection for your hair. Rinse your hair in freshwater after your day and enjoy the results.
